Last November, 21 students from Changchun No.150 Middle School reproduced the great artwork A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》) successfully. With the help of their Art teacher Duan Yingzi, the students finished the work in 129 days.
Measuring nearly 3.5 metres tall and 11 metres long, the work is on the wall of the school's art classroom. The school set up the Art Club in 2022,calling on students to learn Chinese paintings and experience Chinese culture.
"When reproducing the work, we needed to make an outline first, then add base colours, and finally draw the details. Most of the students didn't have such painting experience, so I drew the outline and the students did the rest of the work," explained Duan.
Though amazing finally, the great result didn't come easily. The students had to spend months finding the right material and the right way to paint on the wall. After trying many times, they finally did it.
"We only saw the artwork in books before. By reproducing it, we can have a deeper understanding of the painting and the traditional Chinese culture," one of the students said.
