As a boy in1956,Forrest Gump has an IQ of75and is fitted with leg braces(支架)to correct a curved spine(脊柱弯曲).He lives in Greenbow with his mother,who runs a boarding house and encourages him to live beyond his disabilities.A young man,Elvis,who lives in their house,plays the guitar for Forrest and puts the boy's strange dance movements into his performances.On his first day of school,Forrest meets a girl named Jenny,and the two become best friends.
Bullied(欺凌)because of his leg braces and stupid appearance,Forrest runs away from a group of children.But when his braces break off,he is found to be a fast runner.With this talent,he receives a football scholarship at the University of Alabama,where he is coached,and becomes a top kick returner.
After graduating,Forrest joins the army.After the war in Vietnam,Forrest is honored a medal for his heroism.He also develops a talent for ping−pong,and becomes famous.
Although Forrest and Jenny have been on and off,they are finally reunited and get married.The film ends with Forrest sending his son off on his first day of school.
