The culture of invitation
导读:同学们,你们有过邀请好朋友回家一起玩耍的经历吗?外国人是如何邀请朋友的呢?读一读下面的短文吧。
In the United States and Canada, people often invite friends over for a meal, a party, or just coffee.

People always say, “Would you like to come over for dinner tonight?” or “Hey, we're having a party on Friday. Can you come?” To reply to an invitation, we can say “thank you” and accept. If we don't have time, we can say “sorry” or give an excuse.
Sometimes, what people say is like an invitation but it is not a real one. For example, “Please come over for a drink sometime.” and “Let's get together for lunch soon.” They are not real invitations because they don't talk about the date or time. They just show that the person is trying to be friendly. To reply to this, people just say, “Sure, that would be great.” or “OK, thank you.”
So next time when you hear an invitation, you should listen carefully. Is it a real invitation or not?
