Thunderstorm Warning System
In summer, we often get thunderstorms with loud thunder, bright lightning, heavy rain and strong winds. To detect storms early, scientists use a weather radar (雷达) to track storm clouds forming in the sky. When the radar finds a storm becoming dangerous, alerts (警报) are sent quickly through phone messages or TV news. If you get a thunderstorm alert, go inside a building right away. Stay away from windows, and avoid using electrical devices.

When it rains too much, rivers and lakes can rise very fast and flood roads or even houses. To predict floods early, scientists put water level sensors (传感器) near rivers and lakes to check if the water is rising dangerously. If the sensors find the water getting too high, alerts come through radio, TV or phones. Floods can happen very suddenly. So when you get a flood alert, the most important thing is to move to higher ground quickly.

In winter, a blizzard brings heavy snow, strong winds and extremely cold temperatures. Weather satellites (卫星) and ground stations work together to monitor winter storms. When the system finds dangerous signs, it sends warnings to people through news channels and phone notifications (通知) from weather apps. If you get a warning, you should stay inside somewhere warm, wear thick clothes, and stock up on food and water. You must avoid travelling or drive very carefully if you must.
All these systems help people protect themselves from thunderstorms, floods and blizzards. The earlier we know about the danger, the more time we have to prepare and stay safe.
