First aid is the help that is given to an injured person or a patient first before any other help arrives. It is important for us to learn some knowledge about first aid in our daily life. If a person has an accident, he needs medical care before a doctor can be found. In serious emergencies, first aid treatment in the first few minutes can save a life. In recently years, China has been making great effort to provide people with high-quality first aid services. Below are some basic steps for treating nose bleeding, burns and unconsciousness(昏迷).
Nose Bleeding
● Sit the injured(受伤者) down with his head leaning forward.
● Ask the injured to breathe with his mouth, forcefully pinch(捏) the soft part below his nasal bone with a cold dressing to the forehead.
● Ask the injured not to swallow(吞) the blood lodged in his throat.
● Loosen his tight clothing.
If bleeding continues after pinching the nose for 10 minutes, continue to do so for another 10 minutes. If bleeding still continues, send the injured to the hospital at once.
General Treatment to Burns
● Move the injured away from the heat source(热源).
● Check the breathing and pulse(脉搏) of the injured.
● Check the area and depth of his burns.
● Wash the burned area with water to reduce pain.
● Cover the wound with a clean dressing.
Someone Who is Unconscious(昏迷的)
If one of your companions falls unconscious or you come across someone else who is already unconscious, you should:
● Stay calm and immediately call the emergency hotline for an ambulance(救护车).
● Roll the person on his or her side to drain any vomit(呕吐物) from the mouth.
● Unbutton the parts of clothing around the neck, chest and waist.
● Keep the person warm and covered with a blanket or clothing.
● Stay with the person until the ambulance personnel arrive.
You should not:
● Place anything such as pillow under the head.
● Sit him or her up.
● Feed him or her anything, no matter it is solid food or liquid(液态的).
