What Is Chinese New Year?
Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year. It is celebrated in many countries around the world.
Each Chinese New Year is named after a different animal. There are 12 animals in the Chinese calendar and they appear in a special order.
Chinese New Year is at the start of the lunar year. The lunar year follows the phases of the moon, so the date of the festival changes each year. It is always in late January or February.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in many ways.
• Many people clean their homes before the festival begins.
