Dad's birthday surprise
"Dad's birthday is on Thursday!" says Mum.
"Let's get Dad a birthday gift," says Kurt to his sister, Shirley.
"Great! Let's give him a surprise!" says Shirley.
"What about this shirt?" says Shirley. "It looks so cool!"
"And Dad likes purple," says Kurt.
"Yes. I'm sure he'll love the shirt!" says Mum.
"But we only have seventeen dollars. The shirt is thirty."
"We can sell our old books and toys at the School Fair," suggests Kurt.
At the fair, Shirley sells all of her old toys and books. She makes thirteen dollars. Kurt's old toy cars are dirty, but he cleans them and makes twelve dollars. Now they can buy the shirt!
The next day, they go and buy the purple shirt.
It's Thursday morning. Dad is very happy with the surprise. "I love this purple shirt," says Dad. "I'm going to wear it to the Sing Song tonight!"
Mum has a surprise, too. She makes a birthday cake.
"It has purple cream!" says Shirley.
"Happy birthday!" they all say to Dad.
