The River Thames is the longest river in England and the second longest in the United Kingdom. But the Thames is the most famous. That's probably because it's in London, the capital city. The Thames goes through London and other parts of the south of England.
Some of famous places in London are by the Thames: the Big Ben clock on the north side of the river; the London Eye on the south side, with its view of the city; and St Paul’s Cathedral (圣保罗大教堂), which was destroyed (破坏) in the Great Fire of London in 1666. And it was built again after the fire. Some bridges over the River Thames are also famous: Westminster Bridge, Tower Bridge and Millennium Bridge.
The River Thames is famous for art, too. Some of the UK’s most well-known artists have painted the Thames, including Turner and Constable. Turner is famous for painting water while Constable is famous as a painter of fields and forests.
