From December 2 to 14, Poland hosted COP24, an important meeting about climate change. COP24 stands for the 24th Conference of the Parties.
Officials from about 200 countries attended the meeting. They discussed what they should do to make the Paris Climate Change Agreement work. These countries signed the Paris agreement in 2015. The agreement asks all countries to work together to keep global temperatures from rising by more than 2℃. They were asked to cut their greenhouse gas emissions (排放) and use clean energy. Every year, rich countries are asked to give poor countries over 100 billion (about 700 billion yuan) to help them develop in a climate - friendly way.
Global warming brings many serious problems to humans and the world. For example, the ice caps (冰盖) at the South Pole and the North Pole are melting (融化). As they melt, sea levels go up. Places like Venice could be underwater one day. If it happens, millions of people will undertake (承担) huge suffering.
