The Foolish Old Man Moves the Mountains
Once upon a time, there was an old man named Yu Gong. He was nearly 90 years old. Two huge mountains stood right in front of his house, making it very inconvenient for his family to go out. One day, Yu Gong called all his family together and told them he planned to move the two mountains away.
His wife had some doubts at first, but all his children and grandchildren agreed to join him. They dug soil and carried stones to the faraway sea every day, even their little neighbor son came to help them.
A wise old man named Zhi Sou laughed at Yu Gong and said he was too old to move even a tiny part of the mountains. But Yu Gong replied calmly: "If I die, my children will go on with this work. My children will have their own kids, and the mountains will not grow any bigger. So we can surely move them away one day."
Finally, the god in heaven was moved by Yu Gong's perseverance. He sent two gods to carry the two huge mountains away.
My Feelings
From this story, I learn that nothing is impossible if we keep working hard and never give up when we face difficulties. This traditional Chinese folk story shows us the great power of determination and teamwork, and this spirit still guides me a lot when I meet problems in my daily study and life.
