In 1960, Chinese climbers Wang Fuzhou, Gongbu and Qu Yinhua became the first Chinese people to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma from its northern side. With great curiosity and strong ambition, they climbed to win honour for China and show the world that Chinese people can challenge nature and never give up.
The journey was full of dangers. The weather was changeable, and the temperature dropped to 40 degrees below zero. High cliffs, long distance and terrible living conditions made it very hard to survive. Death was always around them. However, these climbers were determined. They cared for their teammates and stood shoulder to shoulder. They helped each other and kept moving on.
Finally, they stood successfully on the world’s highest peak. Their courage and teamwork made Chinese people proud.
