Jack's week started badly.
“Where is your homework?” asked Mr Fish, the History teacher, on Monday morning.
Everyone turned to look at Jack.
“I did my homework at the weekend but I left it at home this morning. I can bring it to school tomorrow,” Jack said.
“Well, make sure you will,” said Mr Fish.
When he got home, Jack thought about doing his History homework. But he played a computer game with his brother Jim, and then he started watching TV, so he forgot all about it.
On Tuesday morning, Jack's friends, Liam and Tom, were waiting for him at the gate of the school. They looked upset.
“What's up?” asked Jack.
“Jason and his friends took our football away,” answered Liam.
Jack walked up to Jason and his friends and asked for the football. They laughed at him. So Jack became angry and had a fight with them. Mr Green, the Art teacher, saw them and they all got into trouble for fighting.
On Wednesday, Jack had an accident in the chemistry laboratory. He hurt himself when he did a test. The Chemistry teacher was so angry that he took Jack to the head teacher's office.
On Thursday night, Jack couldn't sleep. He wasn't worrying about the head teacher. In fact, he was thinking about the Westbourne Fair.
Every year, on a Thursday night in April, the fair entered the town. And every year, on the following Friday, he always went there with his friends.
It was the best moment of the whole year. Jack even saved his pocket money so that he could go to the fair. But his parents didn't want him to go.
Jack wanted to escape. He got up early on Friday morning and left without having breakfast. He ran to the town square. There was nobody there, but the Westbourne Fair was already there. Jack looked around. He saw a big dog lying under a truck beside the road. Jack picked up a little stone and hit the dog. The dog ran after him quickly.
When he got to school, Jack was late again. He was so sad that he sat there, crying.
