The Yangtze River is the longest river in China and the third longest river in the world. The whole river is about 6,300 kilometers long. It starts in the Tanggula Mountains on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and goes through Qinghai, Xizang, Sichuan, Yunnan, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shanghai. At last, it runs into the East China Sea.

There is the world's largest dam (坝) over the river, the Three Gorges Dam. It is 185 meters high and 2,335 meters long. This huge dam stops floods (洪水) and makes electricity (电) for millions of people.
