2 But this is the first World Heritage site for tea culture. In the 10th century, the ancestors(祖先) of the Blang people(布朗族), the Dai people and some other ethnic groups(少数民族) came to live here. They found wild tea trees and started to produce tea from them. Now Jingmai Mountain still preserves the languages, customs and festivals of different ethnic groups. 3 Here, the local people have important festivals. For example, the Shankang Festival of the Blang people shows respect for their “tea ancestors”. Another example is the Water Festival of the Dai people. 4 They also make good wishes for the tea forests. In Blang culture, they believe that every tea tree has a spirit.
