Mia:Hi, Tom! Do you remember the typhoon that hit our city last September?
Tom:Oh sure! I'll never forget it. I was walking home from school when the wind suddenly picked up.
Mia:Oh! The wind was so strong that I could barely see the road outside.
Tom:Did your neighbours do anything to prepare for the typhoon?
Mia:Yes. From 3 to 4 in the afternoon, the neighbours were gathering at the community centre. Some volunteers were handing out water and snacks to people who couldn't go home. That was really thoughtful. What were your

Tom:My dad was fixing our backyard fence while my mum was moving our flower pots inside. She was worried that they would blow away. How about your family? Were they all at home?
Mia:Yeah, everyone was home. While the wind was howling(长嚎) outside, my family and I were sitting together in the living room, listening to the radio for updates(更新). We tried to stay calm, but it was hard not to feel a little scared when the lights went out suddenly. Did you manage to do anything to stay calm?
Tom:Not really. I was trying to finish my maths homework, but the table was shaking so much that I couldn't hold my pencil straight! What did you do to kill time?
Mia:When the worst of the storm was passing, we made hot chocolate to warm up. What about you?
Tom:My mum made warm soup for us, which was perfect for the cold evening. The next morning, we were cleaning up the fallen branches in our yard when our teacher called and said school would be closed for two days. People checked on each other after the storm. I was relieved and glad that everyone was OK.
Mia:I talked to our neighbour Mrs Lee, and she said she'd never felt so grateful for our community and the volunteers. That typhoon was scary, but it also made me realize how people help each other in tough times.
