四、当你身边发生火灾时,该如何自救?请阅读短文,根据短文内容选择最佳答案。
Fires can start anywhere. What are you going to do if you are in a burning place? Do you know how to save yourself? Here are some suggestions.
Find exits quickly
At home, you can get out through doors, windows, or fire escape ladders 消防逃生梯. In public places, look for green "EXIT" signs with a running person on them. If you see smoke, bend 弯腰 down low and move—this is where the air is cleaner. Never use elevators in a fire! Always use stairs!
Check doors safely
Before opening any doors, touch the door with the back of your hand. If it's hot, don't open it! If smoke is coming under the door, stay inside. If the door is cool, open it slowly. If you see thick smoke or flames, shut it immediately. And remember to close doors behind you when you escape. This slows the fire and smoke, and helps others get out too.
Get help and act wisely when trapped
If you're trapped in a room on a high floor of a building, do these things. Call 119 at once and tell your address clearly. Then put wet towels to block the cracks 缝隙 under the door. Open the window and shout for help, but never jump! What's more, focus on getting the attention of firefighters by waving something colourful or bright.
Knowing and practising these simple actions can help you stay calm and get out safely if a fire happens.
