Jane Goodall: a life with chimpanzees
Jane Goodall was one of the most famous scientists in the world. Her lifelong work with chimpanzees in Africa has changed how we understand these amazing animals.
Jane was born in England in 1934. From a young age, she was interested in animals. At 26, she went to Africa to study chimpanzees. At that time, people knew very little about these animals. Jane spent years living in the forest, watching the chimpanzees every day. She discovered that chimpanzees made and used tools just like humans. This was a huge surprise to scientists around the world.
Jane faced many difficulties. She had to live in a small tent and often went hungry. Once, she fell ill with a serious fever, but she carried on with her work. She also had to deal with dangerous animals, but she never gave up. Her hard work paid off. She wrote many books and made films about chimpanzees, which helped people understand and protect them.
Despite her success, Jane never thought about personal fame or money. She said, "The best thing about my work is seeing the chimpanzees happy and healthy." Though Jane was over 90, but she still travelled around the world to talk about protecting animals and nature.
