Paper Cup Stool(凳子)
What do you think would happen if you tried to stand on some paper cups? You would crush(压坏) them, right? What if you used the power of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) to stand on the cups without crushing them?
In this activity, you will build your own paper cup stool!
What you need:
• 5—10 paper cups
• 1 piece of cardboard (Big enough for your feet to stand on)
1 Try standing on 1 or 2 paper cups. Do they crush under your weight? If not, see what you have to do to get them to crush. We will use this same way later on.
2 Put at least 5 paper cups on the floor. Make sure you spread them out evenly(平均地) to help the stool hold weight better.
3 Put your cardboard on top of the paper cups.
4 Now try standing on top of the cardboard. Do the cups support your weight? Try the same way you used before to crush the cups. Does it work this time?
5 If you have more cups and another piece of cardboard, try adding another layer(层) of cups and cardboard to make a two-tier(双层的) stool!
