Animals’ amazing sleeping habits
Flamingos are well-known for sleeping on one leg! They do this to save energy and stay warm in cold water. When they sleep, their long necks curl up like a question mark. This helps them watch for danger even while resting.
Unlike flamingos, hippos sleep underwater! They can hold their breath for 5-7 minutes and float up to breathe without waking up. This keeps them safe from land predators and the hot sun.
Some animals never fully “go to sleep”. Dolphins and whales rest one half of their brains at a time! The awake half helps them breathe and avoid danger while swimming.
Even tiny animals need sleep! Ants take one-minute naps all day long. Fruit flies that don’t sleep enough forget how to learn new things—just like humans!
Why do animals sleep differently? Big predators like lions sleep a lot to save energy for hunting. Prey animals like rabbits sleep in short breaks to stay alert. Migrating birds can even sleep while flying! Sleep helps all animals stay healthy and safe. Next time you’re tired, remember: Even animals have clever ways to rest!

Task1(判断正误):
1. 定位原文第一段:“When they sleep, their long necks curl up like a question mark.”,可知火烈鸟睡觉时脖子蜷成问号而非直线,故答案为F;
2. 定位原文第四段:“Ants take one-minute naps all day long.”,与句子表述一致,故答案为T;
3. 定位原文最后一段:“Prey animals like rabbits sleep in short breaks to stay alert.”,可知被捕食动物是短睡而非长睡,故答案为F;
4. 定位原文最后一段:“Migrating birds can even sleep while flying!”,可知迁徙鸟能边飞边睡,故答案为F;
5. 定位原文最后一段:“Sleep helps all animals stay healthy and safe.”,与句子表述一致,故答案为T。
Task2(单项选择):
1. “well-known”所在句意为“火烈鸟因单腿睡觉而著名”,结合语境可知其含义为“著名的”,对应选项C;
2. 定位原文第二段:“They can hold their breath for 5-7 minutes and float up to breathe without waking up.”,与选项A表述一致,故答案为A;
3. 定位原文第三段:“Dolphins and whales rest one half of their brains at a time!”,对应选项B,故答案为B;
4. 定位原文第四段:“Fruit flies that don’t sleep enough forget how to learn new things”,对应选项B,故答案为B;
5. 定位原文最后一段:“Big predators like lions sleep a lot to save energy for hunting.”,对应选项B,故答案为B。
