The Secret Language of Trees
Did you know that trees can “talk” to each other? Scientists have discovered that trees in a forest are connected through a network of fungi(真菌) underground. This network is sometimes called the “Wood Wide Web”.
Through this web, trees can share food and information. For example, when a tree is attacked by insects, it can send warning signals to nearby trees. The other trees then produce chemicals to protect themselves. Mother trees, the oldest and largest in the forest, can even help their young ones by sending them nutrients through the fungi network.
