Ⅰ. 阅读短文,回答问题。
April 22nd is Earth Day. On this day, many things are done to call on people to protect our home, the earth. The first Earth Day was celebrated (v. 庆祝) in 1970 in the US. The idea for Earth Day was initiated (v. 发起) by Senator Gaylord Nelson. In 1969, Nelson said there should be lectures on protecting environment in colleges in the US. He also thought that the next April 22nd should be celebrated as Earth Day. Then on April 22nd in 1970, more than 20 million Americans took part in many activities to draw people's attention to the earth. In 1990, more than 140 countries celebrated the day and from then on, Earth Day has become an international holiday. So as a student, what can you do to protect our beautiful home? Here are some things you can do:
* Save energy by turning off the light when you leave your room.
* Save trees, which are used to make paper. Use both sides of a piece of paper when drawing, coloring or writing.
* Pick up litter that you see in your neighborhood and recycle whatever can be recycled—aluminum (n. 铝) cans, glass, paper, cardboard, and plastic things.
* Turn off the tap (n. 水龙头) while you are brushing your teeth.
* Don't waste water when you take a bath or shower.
* Use less plastic bags which are bad for the earth.
Although all these are small things, they can mean a lot in the future. To you, they are small, but to the earth, they are big.
