Andy couldn't sleep. His roommates snored(打鼾)loudly, and there were always unfamiliar sounds around. Every night, he tossed and turned, feeling more and more tired. You couldn't imagine how much he missed his family, and the quiet nights at home!
One night, after another frustrating attempt to sleep, Andy decided to call home. He dialed his mum's number, and soon he heard her comforting voice. “Hi, honey! How are you?” she asked. “I can't sleep, Mum. My roommates snore so loudly, and I miss home,” Andy confessed, his voice trembling a little.
His mum listened patiently and then said, “I understand it's tough, Andy. But remember, this is a new chapter in your life. Try to make friends and take part in activities. It might help you feel more at home.” Andy wasn't sure how making friends would help him sleep, but he followed his mum's advice. The next day, he decided to give it a try.
During lunch, he noticed a group of kids talking about soccer. Andy loved soccer, so he gathered his courage and walked over. “Hi, I'm Andy. Can I join you guys?” he asked. “Sure!” one of the boys said. “We're just talking about the soccer team. Do you play?” “I do! I used to play at my old school,” Andy replied, feeling a bit more hopeful. “Great! We have practice after school today. You should come,” another boy said.
Andy agreed, and after school, he headed to the soccer field. He was nervous at first, but soon he was running, kicking and laughing with his new teammates. For the first time, he felt like he belonged there.
As the weeks went by, Andy got more involved in sports and other activities. He joined the soccer team, started playing basketball, and even tried out for the school play. He made new friends and began to enjoy the sense of community at school.
1. Why couldn't Andy sleep well at first?
2. How did Andy start making friends at school?
3. Have you ever faced a similar situation? How did you handle it?
