Liu Yu comes from Taiyuan, Shanxi. She saw tree hollow (树洞) paintings when she travelled in South China. ▲ So she decided to bring it to her hometown.
Now in Yingze Park of Taiyuan, many plain tree hollows are turned into lovely cartoon images. Few people paid attention to these tree hollows in the past, but now many tourists come to take photos here.
“Every tree hollow has its own shape (形状),” Liu Yu said. “Before drawing, I check them many times. I choose the right animals for different shapes.”
Painting outdoors is not easy, but people's love for those paintings makes her keep working. She always asks the park for permission (许可) first before she works. So far, she has finished nearly 40 paintings in Taiyuan.
