Recently, experts are studying how language could influence children’s lives. They carried out a survey of 2,001 parents with children under the age of 18, along with another survey of more than 500 business leaders.
According to the study, children who speak different languages become more aware of(意识到) different cultures, other people and other points of view. This might help them better understand the world around them and then for sure increase their chances of finding better jobs when they grow up. The future job markets are in need of space tour guides, robot coaches, e-commerce(电商) workers, etc. No matter what a child chooses to be, multilinguals(使用多种语言的人) and cross-culture talents will probably get a good chance of taking the lead.
But which languages top the list? Results show that children should be learning French, German, and/or Chinese if they want to be successful in the next ten years. Being able to speak one of these languages opens the door to new markets for businesses and allows them to create new relationships with future business partners.
In the survey, however, researchers have also found that not all parents are aware of the importance of their children learning a second language, which is quite shocking. While 85% of the parents believe that it is important for their children to learn a second language, 45% of parents admit(承认) that their children cannot speak a second language and even 15% of the parents consider learning a second language a waste of time.
If you want your child to stand out from the crowd, follow the habits of parents of successful people—give children chores, set high but realistic(现实的) expectations, get yourself educated, spend time together—and, of course, make sure they learn a second language, especially one of the three languages!
