It was half past ten. John was watching TV in the sitting room. “Go to bed, John,” said Mrs Scott, “or you can’t get up on time tomorrow morning.” “Let me finish watching the football match, Mummy,” said the boy. “It’s very nice!”
Forty-five minutes later the match was over and John went to his bedroom. He took off his clothes quickly, threw them on a chair and soon went to sleep. It took his mother five minutes to wake John up the next morning. “Get up quickly,” said Mrs Scott, “or you’ll be late for class. Look, it’s half past six.”
John had to get up, but he couldn’t find his shirt. He called out, “Where’s my shirt, Mummy?” Mrs Scot went in at once and said, “Don’t shout, my dear! Your brother Mike is asleep. Don’t wake him up.” She helped John find his clothes and came out. Another five minutes later, John didn’t come out. His mother felt strange and went to see him again. She saw him watching his feet. “What are you doing here?” asked his mum. “I don’t understand why my socks are different: one is smaller than the other!”
