Last weekend,I decided to join in a volunteer activity at the local community centre. I heard that it could be a lot of fun,so I was really excited.
When I arrived at the community centre,there were already many other students and some adults. We were divided into different groups. My group helped clean the old people’s home nearby. At first,I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. We started by cleaning the rooms. Some of us swept the floors,some cleaned the windows,and I made the beds. The old people living there were so kind. They told us stories about their past while we worked. One grandpa even showed us some old photos of his youth.
After we finished cleaning,we organized a small performance for them. Some students sang songs,and others danced. I recited(背诵) a poem. The old people looked so happy,and their smiles made all our hard work worth it.
By the end of the day,I was tired but felt really good. I realized that volunteering was not only about giving but also about receiving. I received so much joy and love from the old people. It was truly an unforgettable experience,and I can’t wait to join in more volunteer activities in the future.
