Winter is a nice break from the hot summer days, but it's also the time when the common cold becomes much more common. Why do we get sick more easily in winter, and what can we do to keep our bodies healthy?

Many cold and flu viruses(流感病毒)grow well in cold weather. Cool temperatures let these viruses stay active for a longer time and grow more quickly. Winter air is also much drier than summer air. When we cough or sneeze in humid air, the small drops fall to the ground fast. But in dry air, the drops become smaller and hang in the air for much longer. So it's far easier for other people to breathe them in and get sick too.
Our noses have sticky liquid(液体) and tiny hair-like parts. These stop most viruses from making us ill. But cold air dries out our airways, making these parts less effective. That's another big reason why colds happen so often in winter.
We can't totally avoid getting sick in winter, but we can take action to stay well. Wash your hands thoroughly and often with soap for at least 20 seconds, especially after going out or shaking hands with others. Keep away from sick people—their viruses can spread. If someone at home or work is sick, open windows for fresh air and clean tables and other hard surfaces with cleaning products.
Also, keep your body in good shape. Exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and drink plenty of water every day to make your immune(免疫) system strong enough to fight illnesses.
Getting sick is normal in winter, but we can fight cold viruses with small daily changes. These easy steps can help us stay healthy and happy all through the winter.
