Puberty begins when your body tells your brain to produce a kind of hormone. During puberty, teenagers grow quickly.
Studies show that puberty is happening earlier. Take girls in the US for example.
They are getting their periods about six months earlier than they did many
years ago. The average age used to be 12.5 years old. But now it's just under 12.
Many things can cause early puberty. Being overweight is one of the key reasons.
This may be because fat cells produce oestrogen, which is important for

Champaign told the German newspaper Die Welt. "This is because they pay more
attention to their bodies."
