In ancient China, there lived a famous doctor. His name was Zhang Zhongjing. One cold day, he saw a girl crying, “My ears! My ears!” Zhang Zhongjing touched her ears. They were cold and very blue. Zhang Zhongjing mixed some mutton and herbs together. Then he put them into small flour doughs. The doughs looked like ears. Zhang Zhongjing called them jiao'er. The little girl ate them and her ears got better! Many people suffered like the girl. Then they began to eat jiao'er, and their ears were no longer blue. Today jiao'er is called jiaozi.
