The resort is located in the north of Chengde, Hebei Province. It covers an area of 5.64 million square meters and is twice as large as the Summer Palace（颐和园）in Beijing. It was originally（起初）built as a place for royal families to spend the hot summer months. With a pleasant climate and scenery, it is a wonderful place for sightseeing in summer.

Changbai Mountain is the most famous mountain in Northeast China. There you can see a beautiful birch（桦树）forest and the Heavenly Lake（天池）, the deepest alpine lake（高山湖）in China. Because it is the rainy season in July and August, visitors often cannot see the lake clearly at that time. The best time to visit Changbai Mountain is in September.
