Geomagnetic storms can eject(喷射) a huge amount of material and carry a strong magnetic field, which will greatly change the magnetic environment of the Earth.
“Geomagnetic storms can influence radio waves and cause problems for ground communication and satellite signals(卫星信号),” Professor Cai Zheng from Tsinghua University told Xinhua. This can influence the accuracy of navigation systems(导航系统) and the quality of signals for phones and satellite TV. Strong geomagnetic storms can also influence power systems, even resulting in power outages(停电). Geomagnetic storms can influence the migration and navigation abilities of animals, too. For example, they can influence homing pigeons’ ability to find their way, making it difficult for them to return home.

However, it was just a convenient excuse. “Geomagnetic storms usually don’t influence human health,” Zong Weiguo from NCSW said.
