The Zhuang People's Folk Song Festival is also known as Sanyuesan Festival. Last month, I had the chance to celebrate it in a small town in Guangxi.
Early in the morning, people in traditional clothes got together in the town square. The festival began with a lively dance show. People held hands, forming circles and moving with the rhythm(节奏) of drums. Some even danced between bamboo sticks(棍子)—it looked difficult but fun! After that, groups of people sang folk songs. Their voices mixed beautifully, showing love and nature.
Of course, food was everywhere! Families shared plates of colourful "five-coloured sticky rice(糯米饭)" made with natural dyes(染料) from plants. The five colours of sticky rice mean good luck and health. I tried a sweet rice cake wrapped in leaves—it tasted like a mix of sugar and flowers.
By evening, lanterns made the streets bright. Kids laughed while playing games, and elders chatted happily. I learnt this festival was not only about singing and eating, but also about keeping traditions alive.
I left with a full stomach and a heart full of memories. The Zhuang People's Folk Song Festival taught me how Guangxi's culture is as colourful as its rainbow-coloured rice!
