David always complained to his mother. He thought life was too hard. He didn't know how to make it and wanted to _1_ up.
David's mother took him to the _2_. She filled three pots with _3_ and put each on a big fire. Soon the water started to boil (煮沸). In one she put carrots, in the second she put eggs, and in the last she put coffee powder. She watched them boil _4_ saying a word.
David didn't _5_ what she was doing. In about 20 minutes, she _6_ the fire. She took the carrots and eggs out and put them on different plates. Then she _7_ the coffee into a cup. She asked, "David, what do you see?"
"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," he answered.
She asked David to _8_ the carrots. He found that they were _9_. She then asked him to take an egg and _10_ it. He saw a hard-boiled egg after taking off the shell. Finally, she asked him to taste the coffee. Its rich and nice smell brought a _11_ to his face.
Each of them went through the boiling water, _12_ each reacted (反应) differently. The carrot was strong and hard at first, but it became soft and weak. The egg was _13_. But after going through the boiling water, its inside became hard. The coffee powder changed the water and created (创造) _14_ new.
"Which are you?" she asked David. "When _15_ comes to you, are you a carrot, an egg, or the coffee powder?"

3. 后文提到“Soon the water started to boil”,说明三个锅里装的都是水,juice果汁、milk牛奶、tea茶均不符合提示内容,故选B。
6. 煮了20分钟之后,妈妈关掉炉火,turn off意为“关闭(火源、电器)”,look after照顾、prepare for准备、pick up捡起均不符合动作逻辑,故选A。
