Guanqian Street is one of the most famous shopping areas in Suzhou. Lying in the center of Suzhou's old town, the street is a place where history and modern life dance together.
In the Song Dynasty(960-1279), the street was called “Tianqingguanqian” because of the temple's(庙) old name. Later, during the Yuan Dynasty(1271-1368), people started calling it “Guanqian Street”. In the 1930s, the street became wider. Later, it was rebuilt with asphalt(柏油). In 1982, it became one of China's earliest walking streets.
The biggest change happened between 1999 and 2001. New shopping malls were built, but the street still kept its historical style. For example, buildings were low and painted black, white, and grey to match Suzhou's ancient buildings. Now Guanqian Street has several parts, such as modern shopping areas and local snack areas.
Today, Guanqian Street never sleeps! You can taste delicious spring rolls, try on traditional silk clothes, or watch artists paint fans. During festivals, the street shines with lanterns and lively music. At night, colourful lights make the street even more beautiful. Now, the street has also become a popular place for visitors with new things like 3D screens and themed(特定主题的) cafes.
Guanqian Street is like an ever-changing storybook. It shows that Suzhou not only loves its past but also welcomes the future. As local people say, “A trip to Suzhou is never perfect without visiting Guanqian Street!

根据第二段中“In the 1930s, the street became wider.”
根据第三段中“For example, buildings were low and painted black, white, and grey to match Suzhou's ancient buildings.”
根据第五段中“As local people say, ‘A trip to Suzhou is never perfect without visiting Guanqian Street!’”
