一、阅读理解
When you're lying on the white sands of the Mexican Riviera, the stresses of the world seem a million miles away. Hey, stop! This is no vacation—you have to finish something!
Here lies the problem for travel writer and food critic (评论家) Edie Jarolim. "I always loved travelling and always liked to eat, but I never thought that I could make money by doing both of those things," she said. Now you can read her travel advice everywhere in Arts and Antiques, in Brides, or in one of her three books, The Complete Idiot's Travel Guide at Mexican Beach Resorts.
Her job in travel writing began eight years ago. After getting a PhD (博士学位) in Canada, she took a test for Frommer's travel guides. She passed the test and got the job. After working at Frommer's, Jarolim worked for a while at Rough Guides in London, then Fodor's, where she fell in love with the natural beauty of the south-west of the USA, and then she moved there.
Now as a travel writer, she spends one-third of her year on the road. The rest of the time is spent completing her tasks and writing reviews of restaurants at home in Tucson, Arizona.
As the job is full of danger and excitement, Jarolim gets to know that the hard part is fact-checking all the information. Sure, it's great to write about a tourist attraction, but you'd better get the local museum hours correct or you could really make someone's vacation a mess.

D B C C

解析

1. 由第三段“then she moved there”中“there”指代前文“the south-west of the USA”可知,Jarolim现居美国,选D。
2. A项与首段“the stresses...seem a million miles away”不符;C项“half”错误,文中是“one-third”;D项未提及。B项可从她对工作的描述推断出她满意自己的工作,选B。
3. 由最后一段“the hard part is fact-checking all the information”可知,最困难的是核实信息,选C。
4. 文章主要介绍Jarolim作为旅行作家的工作生活,C项“Life in travel writing”最贴合,选C。
