《知人不易》选自《吕氏春秋》。《吕氏春秋》是秦国丞相吕不韦带领其门客，集合多方努力编撰的一部名著。吕不韦善于谋略，他认为，文人学士比勇夫猛士要重要得多。因此，他给文人丰厚的待遇，召集他们来著书，经过筛选、归类、删定、综合，最终写成了内容丰富且翔实的《吕氏春秋》。
【语言知识】
文中有一句话：We are supposed to believe what we see. 固定搭配 be supposed to…表示“应该”。我们有多种方法表示某人（包括自己）“应该”（或“必须”）做某事，例如：
Everyone is supposed to obey the classroom rules.
