It was the first known 11 of an emperor penguin making its way to Australia; the animals are usually found in icy conditions in Antarctica, which is a 3,500 km journey.
"The tracked ones have 12 reached this far," Dr Belinda Cannell said.
Emperor penguins are now trying their best to 13 the rapid change in sea level. It is bringing a danger to their living areas and causing the animals 14 . Dr Cannell explained it was possible that the penguin got caught in a current while searching for food and travelled too far north.
The emperor penguin is now being 15 by a famous wildlife carer, who explained the bird was weak, and would receive good treatment.
