March is the month to learn from Lei Feng in China. Lei is probably the most famous Chinese soldier. He passed away more than 60 years ago. But Lei Feng Spirit still encourages Chinese people to do volunteer work.
At this time, a group of Malaysian students, studying at the Changsha Social Work College, volunteered to serve passengers at the Changsha Railway Station with their Chinese schoolmates. They worked patiently to help passengers with boarding safety(乘车安全) and ticket booking. They also provided waiting rooms for special passengers and solved problems for them.
"I was so excited when I was called a 'living Lei Feng'! That was the highest praise for me as a volunteer!" said Lan Zhicong(Chinese name), an international student from Malaysia. He learnt about Lei Feng's stories when he was in Malaysia. After he came to Changsha, the hometown of Lei Feng, he became a "living Lei Feng" and continued the "Lei Feng stories" with his behaviour. "Volunteering is about giving, but I've gained a lot, too." he said.
The Changsha Social Work College has organised a "learn from Lei Feng in Lei Feng's hometown" activity this year. Several volunteer teams of teachers and students carried out different volunteer services at railway or bus stations, communities or campuses(校园) to carry forward Lei Feng Spirit.
