On Wednesday afternoons, if you go to the classrooms of Junior 2 students at Capital Normal University High School, you wouldn't see anybody! Don't be surprised (惊讶的). The students are now out of school. They are having a field trip class.
This special class started at the school in 2001. As its Chinese name shows, the field trip class is to open students' eyes. Students are taken to museums, exhibition centers and even underground stations in Beijing to learn things they can't learn in class.
So far, 14-year-old Li Yichen has visited more than 18 museums. They cover things from Chinese ethnic cultures (民族文化) to advanced cars, from lovely animals to faraway stars.
"For the first time I saw a Miao woman climb a ladder of knives when I visited China Ethnic Museum," Li said. "I was interested in the colorful culture of the Chinese minority groups (少数民族)."
Students don't only visit. They need to find answers to the questions from teachers during the visits. After the trips, they give presentations (展示) on what they have learned.
"We have learned about meteorites (陨石) in class but know little about what they look like," Liu said. "With the field trip class, I got to see these meteorites with my own eyes. It is amazing!"
