Meet Adiba Jaigirdar, the writer of Nadia Islam, on the Record—a new book about eight-year-old Nadia, a new journalist. A journalist is a person who researches and reports on news stories. In the book, Nadia and her family go to Bangladesh during a long holiday. Her reporting skills are put to the test when she spends time with her journalist aunt, who is writing an article about the effects of climate change on people living in Bangladesh. As Nadia learns more about her aunt's work, she's ready to help her write the story. Here, Jaigirdar shares her tips for turning a problem you care about into a story, just like Nadia and her aunt.

Find a story. Jaigirdar says stories are everywhere, so you can take inspiration from the world around you. Having grown up in Bangladesh, Jaigirdar saw how flooding was harming people and decided to include it in her new book.
Ask questions. Asking key questions helps you to find the facts of a story, says Jaigirdar. The 5W questions are a good place to start: What happened? Who was involved? When did it happen? Where did it happen? Why did it happen? These questions will help you get to the bottom of the story, she says.
Check the facts. Making sure that the facts are correct helps make sure your story is solid. To do this, ask an adult to help you check things online. Use reliable sources, such as the BBC and Britannica websites. You could also head to a library to find books to back up your facts, or interview someone.
Practise writing. Stories go through many drafts(草稿) before they are completed. Nadia Islam, on the Record was originally written for a younger audience. Jaigirdar's publishers suggested rewriting it for an older audience. Now on reflection, she thinks rewriting helped improve her story.
