Have you ever heard of the saying “the quiet before the storm”? It means a quiet time before a busy or hard time arrives.
The saying was first used by fishermen. They found that just before a storm, the sea and the air would be very quiet. Soon, the clouds would get together and they'd hear the first thunder.

Warm air goes up.
Warm air is lighter than the cooler air around it. Just before a storm, warm air near the ground begins to go up quickly.
Low pressure takes shape.
As the warm air goes up, taking away a lot of energy, it shapes a low air pressure area near the ground.
Clouds build up.
At the same time, high up in the sky, the warm air is cooling and getting together to become clouds. These clouds go on to build up, getting heavier and darker.
A storm arrives.
At last, this buildup of energy in the air makes the storm itself. The quiet ends as rain, wind, and thunder arrive.
