Screens have become an important part of modern teenage life. However, while online videos can educate and connect young people, some harmful content may damage their health. Therefore, it is important for parents, schools, platforms (平台), and government to make sure that videos have more positive than negative effects on teen health.
Parents should not only limit their kids’ screen time but also know what they are watching. They should guide teens to watch educational videos and keep them away from videos with negative behaviours such as bullying (霸凌) and mean comments. Schools need to add more digital literacy classes. Teachers can teach students how to choose good content. Video platforms should stop things that make teenagers watch too much. This includes things like automatically playing the next video and showing you ads that are picked just for you. They should change these things so that teens won’t spend too much time watching videos and getting influenced in bad ways. Government should come up with ways to protect teens’ personal information. Besides, they can make rules that ask video platforms to set up special accounts (特殊账号) for teenagers. With these accounts, parents can better control what their kids see and do online.
We must do more to prepare kids for how to live in the digital environment and we must always put teen health first.
