I have recently done a survey about how students learn English out of class. Among the 50 students surveyed, 45 spend time reading and reciting words, as they believe vocabulary is the foundation of English learning. 40 students do written exercises, such as completing workbooks or writing short passages. 20 students review their notes after class, but some do it only before tests. Only 10 students practice listening and speaking, which is the least popular activity.
In my opinion, students focus more on reading and writing while ignoring listening and speaking. This may lead to an imbalance in their English skills.
I have two suggestions. First, students should increase time on listening and speaking, like listening to English news, watching English cartoons, or having daily conversations with partners. Second, they should review notes regularly instead of just before exams, as notes can help them better understand and remember key points.
