“Hey, Ben, do you want to team up with me for the painting project?” Amy asked, hoping he would agree.
The other day, the teacher introduced a community project — to paint pictures on the old walls. The one near Amy's home was full of chalk drawings and incomplete posters. She decided to do something.
“Me? Really? I'd love to.” Ben looked up. The bird on the page seemed to be flying out of his drawing book.
“Great! I'm still new to this, so I really need your help.”
“Maybe we need to know how large the wall is so that we can prepare paint and brushes.” Ben said in a low voice and walked to the wall following Amy.
“You're cool, Ben! I didn't even know that... Maybe it is 4 metres high?” Amy looked at the wall and guessed.
“I have no idea about numbers. You know that. My maths...” Ben felt a little nervous.
Amy looked at the ground and thought for a moment. “Let's ask the sun for help,” she smiled. “How tall are you, Ben?”
“Why? 1.6 metres.” Ben was confused.
“And your shadow is about 3.2 metres now.” Amy measured(测量) his shadow, then ran along the wall's shadow and marked its end with blue chalk. “Ben, take the ruler here and measure how long it is from the wall.”
“About 7 metres,” Ben replied.
“Your shadow is about 2 times of your height. Now what about the wall?”
“Got it! And let's measure how wide it is...You're just so cool, Amy!” Ben high - fived her.
“What should we draw then?” Amy smiled.
“What about a boy measuring a wall's shadow under the sun, watched by his classmate with chalk like a magic stick, and...”
