(原版阅读)The days passed. Dorothy worked very hard in the kitchen. She remembered Uncle Henry and Aunt Em in Kansas. She remembered her friends the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman.
She was very sad and she often cried. At night she went to see the Lion.
The Witch didn’t give him anything to eat or drink, so Dorothy took him food and water from the kitchen. Then she lay down next to him, put her head on his warm body and slept until the morning.
The Witch watched Dorothy all the time. She was waiting for the right moment to take the silver shoes. Dorothy wore them all the time. She loved them. The only time she took them off was when she had a bath. The Witch didn’t like water, so she was afraid to go near the girl when she was in the bath.
One day Dorothy was cleaning the kitchen and she slipped on the wet floor. She fell over and one of the silver shoes came off. The Witch was watching. She picked it up quickly and put it on.
“Give me back my shoe!” Dorothy said.
“No! It’s my shoe now,” the Witch replied.
“You are a wicked woman!” Dorothy shouted. “I want my shoe!”
There was a bucket of water near the door. The girl picked it up and threw the water over the Witch.
“Aarrgh!” the Witch cried.
“Water is the end of me!” And she started to disappear in front of Dorothy’s eyes.
“I am going,” she said. “Going, going, going.”
