An unusual experiment suggests that painting eyes on rear ends (屁股) of cows may help protect them from large predators (捕食者) like lions.

The scientists tested their ideas in a four - year study. They worked with the local farmers in the Okavango area. Over 2 000 cows on 14 farms there were separated into three different groups. Large eyes were painted on the rear ends of one group of cows. (1) ____________ The third got nothing.
The eyes worked very well. Of the 683 cows with eyes painted, none were killed in the four - year period.
The scientists were surprised to learn that even “X”s seemed to give the cows some protection. Only 4 of the 543 cows with “X”s were killed.
(2) ____________ 15 of the 835 cows without “eyes” or “X”s were killed.
The results seem to show a simple way to protect cows from lions. (3) ____________ For example, in the experiment, there were always cows without painted eyes. The scientists aren’t sure whether the eyes would work so well if all of the cows had them.
(4) ____________ Anyhow, the farmers are just happy that someone is trying to help keep their cows safe.
A. The second group got simple “X”s.
B. Painting eyes is easy to learn and doesn’t cost much.
C. Cows with nothing on their rear ends didn’t do so well.
D. However, the scientists also warn that the method may have weaknesses.
E. But painting the rear end of each cow takes the farmers too much time.
F. Still, for now, it seems a cheap and easy way to protect cows in the area.

But when I was 15 and went into Mr Jenkins’ class, everything (3) ____________ (change).
Before I (4) ____________ (teach) by Mr Jenkins, Science had simply been a subject full of strange words to me. I didn’t know (5) ____________ CO₂ was. And I didn’t really want to know either. I found it so (6) ____________ (bored) and difficult. But Mr Jenkins made everything interesting. He used to (7) ____________ (explain) things which seemed difficult with lots of examples and in simple language. One day, he even took us outside, and we built a rocket (火箭)! I remember that he let me pour some fuel (燃料) into the rocket, and then another student lit a match to set it off. It was great (8) ____________ (funny)!
I know that I wasn’t a smart student, (9) ____________ I was active in learning new things. Mr Jenkins made me feel that I had my own strengths. I was (10) ____________ (interest) in the study of the stars and planets and he asked me to give a presentation to the class. Now I has taken a job as a Science teacher like Mr Jenkins.
