China's pet market is changing and growing fast! People don't just love dogs and cats any more. More and more people are getting interested in exotic(奇异的)pets like reptiles(爬行动物),fish and some special birds.
According to a report, more people are keeping reptiles and water pets. The number of people with reptiles went up by 2.9% and now 11.3% of pet owners have reptiles. The number of people with water pets grew by 0.6% to 13.4%. Some expensive parrots, like macaws(金刚鹦鹉)and sun parrots, are becoming popular too. It was very difficult for people to see these birds in China. Now, for rich pet lovers, having one is like showing off a cool toy. A young macaw can cost 20,000 to 30,000 yuan, and a pair that can have babies can cost over 100,000 yuan!
As the pet market gets more grown-up, it's moving from just getting bigger to getting better. Pet owners want higher-quality products and better service.
This change is making the industry(产业)come up with new ideas. Young businessmen are bringing fresh ideas. For example, Mars Supermarket, started by people born in the 1990s, and Petlift, a big pet sending service with over 200 vehicles, are new ways of doing business in the pet world. Pet shows are also very important. In 2024, there were over 80 pet shows in China. The Pet Fair Beijing was among the biggest ones. It helped pet businesses show new products, share ideas and make friends.
Even though there are problems, experts think the pet industry will do well.

At these words I shiver. Holmes leans forward and says excitedly, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure," replies Dr Mortimer. "But other strange things are happening since the death of Sir Charles. Some nights people see an animal on the moor like the Hound of the Baskervilles. Everyone is frightened. No one wants to cross the moor at night."
"And do you believe in this hound?" asks Holmes.
Dr Mortimer shakes his head. "I do not know what to believe. And Sir Henry Baskerville, the heir (继承人) to Sir Charles's fortune, arrives in London this morning."
"Is Sir Henry the only heir?" "Yes. There was another one, Rodger Baskerville, Sir Charles's younger brother. But he is dead. Henry is the last of the Baskervilles. I am meeting him this morning at Waterloo Station." Holmes thinks for a moment.
"I want to think about these things. Dr Mortimer, come back here at ten o'clock tomorrow morning and bring Sir Henry Baskerville with you."
Dr Mortimer agrees and hurries off.
When he leaves, Holmes asks me, "What do you think of this case, Dr Watson?"
"It is very strange," I reply. "Sir Charles dies when he is running, Watson. He is running away from something. Then he falls down, dead from shock."
"What is he running away from?" I ask.
"We don't know. Maybe he sees something on the moor and runs away from it. Watson, give me my violin," says Holmes. "Let's wait until we meet Dr Mortimer and Sir Henry in the morning."
