Our neighbourhood is a large, friendly and lively community. More than 30 families live there. Last month, something wonderful happened in our neighbourhood. We built a community garden. Mrs Lin thought of the idea. She has a backyard vegetable garden that everyone admires (羡慕) and next to the house is a large piece of land that is hers.
Mrs Lin taught Maths at our school until she retired last year. "Not everyone has room for a garden," said Mrs Lin. "Let's build a garden that will be good for each family in the neighbourhood. I am ready to be a volunteer, and try to make our community better."
People in the community helped dig the garden, and Mrs Lin told us what to plant. On March 3, our neighbours came together at the garden to plant and water vegetable seeds. Then we had a big celebration. Mrs Lin gave a talk and we ate sandwiches, apples and carrots for lunch.
Families in the neighbourhood volunteer to care for the garden, and we will all share the results. What a great gift to the community, isn't it? We are lucky to live in a neighbourhood like this.
