The next day I looked for a pen and some paper among my things. I made the lists:

I looked at my lists and I thought, “These lists show something important. We can always find something good in a bad situation if we look for it. I must stop feeling sad and sorry for myself. My new life is here, on this island. I must make it as comfortable as I can.”
I started by making my house stronger. I built thick walls and put branches on the roof to keep out the rain. I made some furniture—two tables and a chair. They weren't very beautiful but they were very useful.
One day while I was putting my things in order, I found a small bag. There were some seeds at the bottom of it. I threw them on the ground and used the bag for my gunpowder. But a few months later, I had a big surprise. There was a small field of corn in the same place! I carefully saved the seeds to plant in the next wet season.
“When I have enough corn, I can make my own bread,” I thought.
Then in June I was very ill. I couldn't walk and I had to stay in my “house”. I didn't eat or drink anything for several days. Every night I had bad dreams and I always woke up feeling afraid and sad. I remembered my mother and father in York. I didn't say goodbye to them when I went to sea. I was very sorry about that now. I prayed to God every day. I also read the Bible. Both of these activities helped me a lot. I felt less alone.

由上文中的“My new life is here, on this island.”
由短文最后一段中的“I prayed to God every day. I also read the Bible.”
