Peter Pan is a famous children's story. English writer J. M. Barrie (1860—1937) wrote it. All children grow up, except one—Peter Pan. Peter Pan loses his shadow (影子). When he is looking for his shadow, he flies into Wendy's room. Wendy later becomes his best friend. The following story tells how these two meet each other. Let's read together.
Peter is annoyed (烦恼) with his shadow. He tries to stick (粘) his shadow to his body again but he can't. He tries soap (肥皂) but it doesn't work. Peter sits on the floor and begins to cry.
The sound of his crying wakes Wendy up. "Boy," she says, "why are you crying? And what are you doing in my room? And who are you? And..."
"I'm Peter Pan. I'm crying because I can't stick my shadow to me." Then Wendy sees the shadow on the floor. "I can sew (缝) it on," she says. She finds a needle and thread (针线) and she sews the shadow on Peter's foot.
Now Peter is very happy again.

Badger was asleep when Rat rang his front doorbell. He was not happy because someone woke him up.
"Who is it?" he called.
"It's me, Rat, and my friend Mole," Rat called back. "Please let us in. We lost our way, and we're tired and cold."
They were very cold because it had just started to snow. Badger was at once more friendly. "Come in, my friends, come in," he called. "I thought you might be the weasels (黄鼠狼) trying to sell me something."
Rat and Mole opened Badger's front door and went into his underground house.
"Come and warm yourselves by the fire," Badger said. "And join me for supper. It's nearly ready."
"We've been walking in the Wild Wood for a few days. Because of this, we are quite tired. And we have had almost nothing to eat," Rat said.

They sat at his table and began to eat.
"I've heard bad news about Food," Badger said. "He bought a car. He drives around the countryside like a mad (疯狂的) man. He's already had some accidents (事故). If he's not careful, he'll kill himself, or someone else."
"What can we do?" Rat said. "He never listens to anything I say."
At that moment, Badger's front doorbell rang. Badger stood up.
"I'd better go and see who it is."
A few minutes later, he came back into the room. He had Toad with him.
